Front Suspension

I decided to use the stock upper and lower control arms (mainly due to my budget; I would have preferred to used tubular Global West upper and lowers but they aren't in the budget). We will be stripping the control arms and replacing the bushings with Global West del a-lum bushings to ensure good rotation without any binding. I have already bought the complete Hotchkis TVS system which includes over sized front and rear sway bars, 2" drop coils, and 1.5" drop rear leafs.
Here we are removing the bushings...we drilled the rubber, burned it out, and then forced the bushing sleeve and casing out with a small air hammer bit:

Happy New Year! We were able to get the bushings out and we sandblasted the uppers:

While the upper control arms are drying from being etched and primed, we moved on to the lower control arms. The ball joints in the lowers can be a real PITA, so I stopped at my local parts supplier and asked if they rented a ball joint press tool. Not only did they have a nice heavy duty one, it was FREE with a refundable deposit! It literally took less than 3 minutes to press out each ball joint. We will be using this tool to press out the lower bushings as well as install the new Global West bushings.

The lower control arms are now blasted, primed, and painted. I have purchased Global West bushings and shafts, as well as Moog ball joints. Now I just need to get everything pressed back in.

Installing the lower ball joints...I used Moog "Problem Solver" units. Moog is known as having the highest quality but the "problem solver" comes in with the rib that it added around the outside of the ball joint to ensure a tight fit...and boy were they tight! As you can see in the pic below, without a shop press, the ball joint press tool took a LOT of persuading to get the joints in... Also got the spindles blasted and painted them with Rustoleum "Stainless Steel" color paint.
